Typical Installation

Vehicle fitted with a battery

i-track contains all the items required to fit the system. No specialist skills are required other than identifying a suitable power source on the vehicle. The i-track receiver/transmitter is installed (screw or velcro) in a discrete weatherproof location and connected to the vehicle battery using the supplied clip on locks. The GPS antenna plugs into the i-track and is suitably positioned (Note 1). The SIM card slots into the i-track receiver/transmitter and the optional back-up battery pack and status LED simply pug onto the i-track.

Vehicle / Equipment without a fitted battery

If the vehicle does not have a battery / leisure battery fitted (ie a trailer) the optional rechargeable battery can be utilised. The Trailer Vision supplied rechargeable battery last for approx 8 days between recharges and can be recharged using the optional solar panel or recharging switch:

Solar Panel - the weather proof solar panel (Xmm x Ymm x Zmm) should be fitted to an area exposed to sunlight and connected to the rechargeable battery. The battery is then trickle charged whenever the solar panel is exposed to light. i-track will run indefinitely. Installation of i-track with the solar panel is straight forward but is not recommended for anyone who is unfamiliar/unsure of the vehicle electrics.

Charge Controller - The Charge Controller is fitted between the rechargeable battery and the vehicle interior/exterior lighting circuit. Whenever external power is applied (ie when hitched to a vehicle) the rechargeable battery is recharged. Installation of i-track with the charge controller is straight forward but is not recommended for anyone who is unfamiliar/unsure of the vehicle electrics.

i-track sends a text message to the designated mobile phone when the battery is running low.

System Operation

The i-track is not supplied with a SIM card as this gives you the freedom to choose network and payment terms. We recommend a pay-as-you-go SIM card that can be topped up without having to be removed from the unit. Several mobile phone networks will provide SIM cards free of charge.

Once installed the i-track is interrogated via SMS text message sent by mobile phone. For example, to locate the unit send the text message "1234G" to the phone number of the installed SIM card. i-track will respond with the message - GPS CURRENT FIXED AT 51 17'39.70"N, 00019'25.62"E . The 'lat & Long' can then be plotted on a map using http://maps.google.co.uk and the vehicle/i-track location can be easily found/seen.

Note 1: The GPS antenna needs to be suitably positioned in order to receive the satellite signal, ie inside a plastic/fibreglass roofed box is ok, inside a metal box would need external mounting. The GPS antenna is supplied with a 2m cable so can be sited remote from the i-track unit. The chosen (hidden) i-track location can easily be checked for correct operation/suitability before finally fitting.
